A message from the South Dakota Secretary of State Steve Barnett:

South Dakota Absentee Voting for the November 3rd General Election Begins September 18th. Voter Registration Deadline is October 19th. Contact your County Auditor or visit the Voter Information Portal at www.sdsos.gov for any questions.

Please take a look at the trees on your property and ensure branches overhanging the street are at least 12 feet over the street, as shown in the attached graphic.

Starting August 24th, the City of Montrose will be inspecting all trees that overhang city streets. Orange tags will be left on residence doors where trees need to be trimmed. Once notice has been posted, property owners will have 72 hours to trim the trees overhanging the street. If trees are not trimmed, City Maintenance will trim the trees and property owners will be billed per the rates defined in the current Rates, Fines and Fees Resolution, which are currently set at $300 per hour with a minimum of one hour.

Having trees trimmed to at least 12 feet above the street will allow fire trucks and city equipment to avoid damage from low-hanging tree branches. Also please ensure trees branches are not obstructing the visibility of street signs.

Have questions about FEMA/flood relief?  When in doubt call 1-800-621-3362. They will help walk you through the process.
